Sports

Physical activity is synonymous with quality of life. For most people, the strongest motivation to be physically active is the pleasure of the exercise itself. Whether it's a walk in nature, a group leisure class or organized club sport.

Every citizen should have the opportunity to take part in sport in our municipality, in order to stay fit and healthy.

Sport and physical activity are good for health and have a preventive effect against overweight, disease and postural disorders. They enhance physical performance, psychological well-being and self-esteem.

Sport and physical activity enable us to meet other people, develop friendships, relax, regulate stress, gain social recognition for our own commitment, particularly through volunteering in a sports club, and feel good and at home in society.

To achieve this, we create the right framework conditions.

The municipality plays a very important role in promoting sport and physical activity.

We provide infrastructure for schools, childcare centers, youth center and sports organizations. We also support clubs directly through subsidies or indirectly through our know-how. In the field of unorganized sport, we encourage physical activity by designing public spaces to encourage movement, and by creating hiking trails, parks and playgrounds.

To promote physical activity and sport in the municipality, a good network of providers and players is essential. That's why our commune decided to take part in the communal sports coordinator project and has been employing a sports coordinator since January 2022.

Thanks to the networking between authorities, schools, childcare centers, clubs and other partners, it is possible to better coordinate events, optimize the use of facilities and create new offers. The result is added value for both the population and the partners involved. Promoting physical activity and sport in the commune brings together the existing synergies of all those active in the field of sport and physical activity.

The aim is to enable young and old alike to benefit from a wide range of sporting activities, thereby increasing the proportion of the sporting population in all age categories and population groups.

Impuls Project

Roeser is one of four municipalities - along with Grevenmacher, Clervaux and Niederanven - that have been able to take part in the ‘Impuls’ national pilot project. The project is funded by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte and run in close collaboration with the Comité Olympique et Sportif Luxembourgeois (COSL), the Ministry of Sport (MSP) and the Institut National de l'Activité Physique et des Sports (INAPS).

The aim of the project is to promote sport and physical activity at municipal level by networking all the players involved, in order to improve and make more sustainable the sports and physical activity on offer for all sections of the population.

The strategic direction of the project was taken by the steering group, made up of councillors Bettina Ballmann and Angelo Lourenco, the chair of the sports commission Aline Nowacki, Egide Urbain, president of Club Activ+, vice-president of the Berchem youth centre and president of the Roeser judo club, as well as project leaders Lynn Taschler from COSL and Jerry Bucari, the municipal sports coordinator.

The project steering group is responsible for coordinating the entire process and acts as a point of contact and interface for all the players involved.

The project is based on a participatory approach, involving citizens. The heart of the project is the planning group, made up of representatives of local associations and structures as well as interested citizens. Over the course of a process lasting several months, this group has systematically identified concrete needs and drawn up measures for implementation. Since the kick-off meeting at the end of November 2023, interested citizens and association representatives have been actively involved in the planning and implementation process.

First, an inventory was drawn up to identify existing structures and services. Next, a needs assessment was carried out to identify areas where additional needs existed. On the basis of this analysis, these needs were prioritised, and concrete measures were then developed in three specific areas.

Impuls Report Reiser

The results were presented at the Follow-Up event on 9 October 2024.

Among the measures proposed was the installation of a ‘Box-Up’ in Kolla Park. This facility makes sports and games equipment available to the public free of charge, with the aim of promoting sustainable health through physical activity and sport in a simple and accessible way. Equipment such as basketballs, volleyballs and fitness equipment can be borrowed locally via an app, precisely where they are needed. Another measure presented concerns the creation of 300, 400 and 500 metre floodlit running tracks around the tennis courts and swimming pool at Krautem. These tracks offer a variety of uses for different sporting activities and are suitable for all fitness levels. A working group has also drawn up a long-term vision for the redevelopment of the football pitch behind the Roeser municipal administration. Additional facilities, such as a boules pitch, beach-sports pitches and a playground, have been proposed to diversify the offer and create an area, alongside the soon-to-be-built cycle path, where residents can come together to enjoy sporting activities.

In the next phase of the project, the College of Aldermen, in collaboration with the relevant departments of the municipal administration, will assess which projects can be implemented, in what form and within what timeframe, in order to transform the proposed measures into concrete offers of sport and physical activity.

Presentation Follow-Up Réiser

With the presentation of the measures at the follow-up event, the first phase of the pilot project has been completed. The long-term aim of the ‘Impuls’ project is to anchor sport and physical activity in our municipality on a long-term basis. Therefore, even after the official closure of the pilot project, the process will continue using the working group approach, involving interested citizens, representatives of associations and other structures, to develop opportunities for sport and physical activity. This will ensure that the measures developed survive and continue to be developed beyond the project.

If you would like to join Roeser's Impuls network and play an active part in this process, you can register using the QR codes below.
